Nokia, Idea tie up for content access

November 07, 2012 01:18 am | Updated 01:18 am IST - MUMBAI:

Nokia has entered into a partnership with Idea Cellular to make its Nokia Store and Nokia Music service accessible to Idea Cellular’s consumers and, in turn, convert some non-Nokia handset users as its customers.

The partnership allows Idea Cellular consumers using Nokia phones to get Indian and global content from Nokia Store and Nokia Music, and pay for it via their pre-paid or post-paid accounts.

Idea has over 115 million users, and 10 per cent of these are expected to utilise the service which will go live this week.

Affordable pricing

“This partnership democratises access to the best local and global content by making it available across Nokia smartphone and feature phones with affordable pricing and a seamless payment experience. We believe integrated operator billing is very relevant for a market like India,” said Viral Oza, Director Marketing, Nokia India.

Music-based apps

“Our initiative with Nokia will enable affordable and easy access to music and entertainment-based apps on the Nokia platform in remote parts of the country where Internet is only accessible on mobile,” Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea Cellular, said.

A range of Nokia Asha and Lumia devices are now coming bundled with unlimited music service subscription ranging from several months to a year. On expiry, Idea consumers will now have renewal subscriptions options for the Nokia Music Store.
