Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) has written to the Department of Revenue to include its 1,000 MW new thermal power project at Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu in the list of mega power projects to avail itself of customs and Central excise duty waiver.

In a letter to the Joint Secretary in the Department of Revenue, NLC pointed out that the Cuddalore project was missing in the list of notified ultra mega power projects and mega power projects, which were exempted from customs and Central excise duties.

Since the project met all the criteria required for availing itself of the benefits under the mega power projects besides having a certificate of mega power project from the Power Ministry, it should be included in the list of mega power projects, the company said. .
