Hero MotoCorp Ltd (HMCL) on Wednesday unveiled its “new generation” of two-wheelers that would be launched in the Indian market over the next few months.

The new vehicles, which come after the Hero Group parted ways with Japan's Honda, are 110cc bike Passion X Pro, 125cc bike Ignitor and 110cc scooter Maestro.

After setting new records in sales — over 61-lakh bikes in 2011 — Hero MotoCorp is now gearing up to take on competition from its erstwhile partner Honda that will launch its 100 cc bike in the Auto Expo beginning Thursday. Other bike-makers such as Bajaj, TVS, Yamaha and Suzuki are also going to unveil their new products.

“The Maestro will be launched during this month, while the two new motorcycles will be introduced later this year…these are not just new products, these models reflect the company's intent and vision for the future and a new clear strategy to further consolidate its leadership position,” Hero MotoCorp Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Pawan Munjal told journalists here.

Pointing out that Hero MotoCorp's 61-lakh sales figure last year was the highest-ever achieved by any single manufacturer in the world, Mr. Munjal said the company would also be focussing on the scooter market with Maestro, positioned exclusively for males. “Our share in the gearless scooter market has been consistently going up, selling an average of over 35,000 units of 100cc Pleasure that is positioned specifically for women users,” he added.

According to Hero MotoCorp Senior Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Anil Dua, “We have always kept our entire range of products refreshed with frequent launches of new models with cutting-edge technology and contemporary looks…the new products add a lot of power and style to our existing range of product portfolio.”

In the current fiscal, the company has already launched refreshed models of Glamour and Glamour FI in the deluxe segment, besides introducing new version of Karizma ZMR in the premium segment.
