Singapore-based Mobell Technology announced its foray into the Indian mobile handset market in partnership with consumer durables company Salora International here on Monday.
As part of its foray, Mobell has launched seven handset models and will add six more models by January 2010.
“India is a very significant market for us and presents a huge opportunity for us to tap. We will bring handsets designed for Indian needs and localisation will be an important factor for us,” said Mobell Managing Director Arthur Tan.
Salora, on its part, will be responsible for marketing and distribution of Mobell handsets in the country.
“In the first year, the focus will be more on building the brand than on sales. In the next 3-5 years, we would like to see Mobell among the top 10 players in India,” Salora International Managing Director Gopal Jiwarajka said.
The handsets launched on Monday are in the price range of Rs. 2,000-7,000 and include features like dual SIM, FM radio and expandable memory. The handsets, currently launched in north and east India, will be available pan-India by June next year.
Salora will also be responsible for after-sales service.
“Salora already has 175 service points, which will be increased to 500 points to ensure efficient after-sales service to its customers across the country,” Mr. Jiwarajka said.
