January 05, 2012 11:06 pm | Updated July 25, 2016 07:04 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The BMW Group on Thursday introduced its Mini brand in India by launching four variants of the iconic car, priced between Rs.24.9 lakh and Rs.31.99 lakh. The company plans to have exclusive Mini showrooms, staring from two in Delhi and one in Mumbai to create a separate brand identity for the iconic car.

To be sold as CBU (completely built-up) units, the variants introduced in India are Mini Cooper (Rs.24.90 lakh), Mini Cooper S (Rs.27.90 lakh), Mini Convertible (Rs.29.99 lakh) and Mini Cooper S. Countryman (Rs.31.99 lakh), all available in six-speed automatic transmission with powerful and efficient petrol engines.

“By launching the new Mini 10 years ago, we created the most exciting premium small car brand in the world. As one of the world's top growth markets, India is a great place to continue accelerating Mini's global momentum…Yes, it is a bit delayed entry for Mini in India but not too late,” said Mini Brand Management and Business Coordination Senior Vice-President Kay Segler.

The German carmaker has started bookings of the Mini in India and deliveries will start by March this year. Pointing out that there were no plans to assemble the car in India, he said: “We are not looking at volumes…we have grown in other similar markets like Brazil, Mexico and China and we are confident of doing the same in India.”

According to BMW Group India President Andreas Schaaf, “Around the world, Mini has become a byword in the premium small car segment for expressive design, premium quality and unmistakable driving fun. Mini's innovative profile has enabled the brand to win over a trend-conscious and quality-oriented target across the world...we hope to do the same in India.”
