Lal Bahadur Shastri award for Sunil Mittal

Chairman and Group CEO of Bharti Enterprises Sunil Mittal was conferred the 10th Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.

The award is given to an individual for his/her contribution in the fields of public administration, academics and management by the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, New Delhi (LBSIM). After receiving the award, Mr. Mittal said: “I am privileged to receive this award that has been instituted in the honour of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, an epitome of ethics, transparency and efficiency in public life.” Later, speaking at a function organised in his honour, Mr. Mittal said mobile tariffs in India, which are already lowest in the world, would fall further due to growing competition in the fast growing telecom sector. Mr. Mittal is the founder of Bharti Airtel, the largest mobile company in terms of subscriber base.
