The Keventer group on Saturday launched, what is being described as West Bengal’s first integrated cold chain plant, at Barasat in North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. The foundation of the plant was unveiled by Union Food Processing Minister Subodh Kant Sahai.
The chain is part of Keventer Agro’s foray into fresh foods.
The Kolkata-based food processing company produces and distributes brands such as Frooti, Appy, LMN and Bailley packaged drinking water. It has recently launched a mustard oil brand.
Keventers will also help 3,000 farmers in this locality to upgrade their farming capability and facility through a training centre, besides buying their products directly for selling at modern retail stores. Tie-ups are already in place a company release said.
The 34,000 sq. ft. facility has separate dry and wet sections and extensive storage facility.
Several State ministers, including Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta, land and Land Reforms Minister A. R. Mollah, Agriculture Minister M. Chatterjee, Agricultural Marketing Minister M. Hussain and former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee were present on the occasion.
