Jubilant Organosys has announced a strategic research and development tie up with U.S.-based Duke University and Naresh Trehan-promoted super specialty healthcare facility Medanta. The company has also decided to set up three new hospitals near Kolkata with an investment of Rs. 185 crore in the next one year.
Announcing this at a press conference here, company Chairman and Managing Director Shyam S. Bhartia said Jubilant and the Duke University would jointly develop molecules from the U.S.-based institute’s intellectual property right portfolio.
Jubilant would conduct phase I and phase II clinical trials on the molecules provided by Duke at Medanta, which has earmarked 60 bed dedicated research facility Medanta Duke Research Institute (MDRI) inside its premises.
Besides this, Mr. Bhartia said Jubilant and Duke would collaborate on two innovative biomarker studies to be conducted in Kolkata. The research would focus on molecule characteristics of several chronic diseases in India and also on the gene pool of Indian population.
