JK Lakshmi Cements on Tuesday said it will invest Rs. 1,200 crore for setting up a Greenfield plant at Durg (Chhattisgarh) that will increase the company’s total production capacity by over 50 per cent.
“We are looking at a new plant in Durg with an investment of Rs. 1,200 crore. The plant will have a capacity of 2.7 million tonne annually and it is likely to be operational by 2012-13,” JK Lakshmi Cement Managing Director Vinita Singhania told reporters on the sidelines of the International Seminar on Cement and Building Materials here.
She, however, did not provide details regarding the sourcing of money for the investment.
Ms. Singhania said that with the operationalisation of the plant at Durg, the company’s annual capacity will go up by over 50 per cent.
“We have a total capacity of five million tonne currently in our plant at Sirohi (Rajasthan) and the grinding unit at Ahmedabad. With the addition of 2.7 million tonne, our total annual capacity will increase by over 50 per cent,” she added.
Earlier this month, JK Lakshmi had announced that it is scouting for 30 acres of land in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to set up a 5.5 lakh tonne cement grinding unit with an investment of Rs. 80 crore.
Besides cement, JK Lakshmi is putting in Rs 200 crore to expand its captive power generation capacity.
