HDFC Q2 profit up 33 pc

Private lender HDFC Bank on Tuesday reported a 33 per cent increase in its net profit at Rs 912 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2010. The bank had posted a profit of Rs 687 crore in the same quarter a year ago.

Total income rose by 14.1 per cent to Rs 5,770 crore in the July-September quarter, up from Rs 5,054 crore in the same period last year, HDFC Bank said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

At the same time, operating profit of the bank rose by 13 per cent to Rs 1,807 crore, compared to Rs 1,593 crore in the same quarter in the previous fiscal. Interest income of the bank increased to Rs 4,810 crore against Rs 3,991 crore in the second quarter of the last year.

For the first half ended September, 2010, the net profit grew by 33.2 per cent at 1,723 crore compared 1,293 crore in the same period a year ago.

Total income in the first six month rose to Rs 11,181 crore compared to Rs 10,218 crore in the first six month of the previous fiscal.

Shares of the bank declined by 1.36 per cent to Rs 2,365.60 on the BSE.
