HDFC net profit up by 23 per cent in third quarter

India’s top mortgage lender Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd on Tuesday reported 22.74 per cent rise in net profit at Rs. 671.25 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2009, over the same period last year.

However, the company’s total income decreased to Rs. 2,762.21 crore in the December quarter, from Rs. 2,924.8 crore in the same period in previous fiscal, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (HDFC) said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

For the nine-month period ended December 31, the company posted a net profit of Rs. 1,900 crore, a growth of 22.64 per cent over the year-ago period.
