Godrej Appliances, the flagship division of Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co., is planning to achieve a market share of 5 per cent in the television market in the next 12 months.
Launching the company's entire range of televisions in Tamil Nadu with the latest in LEDs, LCDs and CRT (cathorde ray tube) TVs, Kamal Nandi, Executive Vice-President, Marketing & Sales, said “We were the late entrants but still there were lot of opportunities in this category.”
At present, the company was importing LCDs from Turkey while CRT TVs were being assembled in India. The company was launching TVs in a phased manner. It already launched the products in Andhra Pradesh in phase I and West of Maharashstra, Kerala and West Bengal in the second phase. Chennai launch was the third phase and the pan-India presence would be completed in another two years, he said. Mr. Nandi said over 1.5 lakh units were sold last year in the four States where the company was present. This year the company was targeting three lakh units with the products available in three more States.
The LCD /LED range will be available between Rs.15,500 and Rs.62,000 and the Godrej CRT TVs between Rs.5,100 and Rs.8,600 across Tamil Nadu.
