The GMR Group said it has synchronised the first unit of its 1050 mega watt (MW) coal-fired power plant at Kamalanga village in Orissa with the central grid.

This is the group’s second coal-based plant to be synchronised, according to a statement issued here on Tuesday.

The Bangalore-based company was developing a 3x350 (MW) project in Orissa, with the work on the second and third units under progress.

The project has been implemented on multiple packages concept and is the first Independent Power Project (IPP) in the State.

The Kamalanga project will cater to the power needs of various states including Orissa, the statement added.
