GMR gets temporary relief in Male case

The Singapore High Court has dismissed the application filed by Maldives Airports Company seeking vacation of the injunctive order granted in favour of GMR Male International Airport (GMIAL), the Indian infrastructure giant said on Tuesday.

The High Court had on July 23 granted an injunction in favour of GMIAL, restraining MACL from taking any step in the Civil Courts of the Maldives preventing GMIAL from adjustment/set-off of the Airport Development Charge and insurance surcharge.

“On November 19, the High Court of Singapore has dismissed the application filed by MACL seeking vacation of the injunctive order granted in favor of GMIAL on July 23 and made absolute the injunctive relief granted in favor of GMIAL,” GMR said in a statement.

GMR Male International Airport is a joint venture company comprising GMR Infrastructure Limited (77 per cent) and Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad (23 per cent).

GMR had won the airport contract when former President Mohamed Nasheed was in place.The matter of levying Airport Development Charge is before an arbitration court in Singapore.
