The first five-star category hotel project of northeast - Vivatna by Taj of the Taj Group — was rolled out here on Tuesday with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi laying the foundation for the project in the presence of Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata.

The 150-room premium hotel project will be located on 4.5 acres along the Guwahati-Shillong road.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tata said the hotel would not only be the destination for business clientele, but it would also attract tourists. Mr. Tata said that he was struck by ‘tremendous changes' taking place in Assam in the past few years and the enhancement in quality of life, especially in rural areas. He said the hotel would contribute on its own towards this development process.

“This (the Taj group hotel) is clear indication that the Tatas are committed to development of Assam.

Today's presence of top industry captains in Guwahati has also shown how much interest they have started showing in Assam,” said the State Chief Minister after laying the foundation.

Earlier, memoranda of understanding were signed in the presence of Mr. Gogoi and Mr. Tata at the official residence of the Chief Minister for creating commercial spaces, IT parks and business hubs in the State.
