Dunlop India Ltd (DIL) has decided to take back seven of the 12 employees it had dismissed earlier this year on disciplinary grounds.
They will be among the 20 employees who will now be allowed to return to the company fold, DIL Chairman P.K. Ruia said. The company had taken disciplinary action against 25 employees in total. Responding to queries on DIL after addressing a press meet to announce an acquisition, Mr. Ruia said that although the company had taken a tough stand against the employees who had been debarred from joining their duties when the Sahagunj plant reopened on December 2, on humanitarian grounds it had been decided that all 20 of them except the five employees against whom criminal proceedings had been started would be re-inducted into the company.
“These 20 employees can draw their salaries since they have tendered unconditional apologies for their past behaviour, but they will not be allowed to enter the factory unless the management regains its confidence about their behaviour,” he said.
Following the declaration of a work-suspension at Sahagunj in November 2008, the unit was in the throes of labour agitation which also took an ugly turn at times. Mr. Ruia was hopeful of commencing production at Sahagunj in a day or two.
