Muthukumarasamy Textiles, which has spinning, processing and garmenting facilities here, has entered the domestic retail market for kids wear.

Company Managing Director S. Ramanathan told presspersons here that the company had 16,800 spindles, fabric dyeing capacity of seven tonnes a day, yarn dyeing capacity of five tonnes a day and a garment unit that could make 7,000 to 8,000 pieces a day. It had invested nearly Rs. 50 crore in these facilities in the last three years. This included about Rs. 5.50 crore investment into manufacturing and marketing of the kids wear (S & M Kids Wear). Mr. Ramanathan said the size of the kids wear industry, mostly in the organised sector, in the country was about Rs. 15,000 crore. However, most of it was in the organised sector. The country had just four or five brands in the kids wear segment. “We have positioned ourselves as a brand and not just as a label,” he said. Today, the domestic retail segment had a huge potential provided the manufacturers were able to cater to the needs of the customers.

S & M Kids Wear would focus on western formal and casual wear for children aged between three and 16. The garments would be 100 per cent cotton. It planned to come out soon with products made of organic cotton. The company would launch infant wear in February-March next year and footwear for children, he said.

It would launch new products for four seasons: autumn/winter, winter, high summer and regular summer. The company hoped to capture three to four per cent of the market in a year. Marketing would be mainly through exclusive brand outlets.

The company has opened a branded outlet, S & M Showroom, here.

In the next one year, the focus would be on the South.
