CESC Ltd , the power utility within the RPG Group, has acquired Dhariwal Infrastructure Private Limited (DIPL) which is engaged in setting up a 600 MW thermal power generating station at Chandrapur in Consequent to this acquisition, DIPL has become CESC's subsidiary.
The acquisition follows an agreement entered into by the two companies on August 27, 2009 the company said.
CESC vice-chairman Sanjiv Goenka, is scheduled to make a formal announcement later during the day in this regard when other details are also likely to be divulged.
CESC has four generating stations in the city with a capacity of about 1000 MW. It serves the city and its vicinity with a consumer base of about 19 lakhs, through its own generation as well as through imports of power about 500 MW daily. It is now in an expansion mode setting up brownfield and greenfield units. CESC is also trying to carve out a pan-India presence.
