CESC buys 2 hydel projects in Arunachal Pradesh

CESC, an RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group company, on Wednesday, announced its plans to expand hydel power capacity through acquisition of two projects in Arunachal Pradesh.

In a communication to the bourses, the company has confirmed that it has entered into agreements to take over two hydro-electric power projects of Indiabulls Group with an aggregate capacity of 146 MW in Arunachal Pradesh.

Giving further details, the company spokesperson said that CESC had acquired the entire equity shares of Pachi Hydro Power Projects Limited and Papu Hydro Power Projects Limited, both belonging to the Indiabulls Group.

Pachi Hydro is a special purpose vehicle established to undertake the 56 MW Phangchung hydro electric project in East Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh.

The 90 MW Papu hydro power project is also located in East Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh. It may be mentioned that CESC already has a 90 MW hydel power project in Arunachal Pradesh in West Sian district. The project is under development and will be built across Siom River near village Jarong. CESC's plans in hydroelectric project now total 236 MW.

At present, CESC has a total thermal power generation capacity of 1,225 MW. Two coal-based thermal power stations of 600 MW each are under construction at Chandrapur in Maharashtra, and Haldia in West Bengal.
