April 22, 2011 10:28 pm | Updated 10:28 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The U.S.-based hospitality firm Carlson on Friday said it planned to operate 50 mid-scale hotels under Country Inns & Suites brand in India in the next ten years.

The company has extended its joint venture agreement with Delhi-based Chanakya Hotels to manage and operate hotels under the brand in the country till December 2020.

The two companies have been operating a joint venture, Country Development and Management Services (CDMS), for the last ten years.

While Chanakya Hotels holds 74 per cent stake in the joint venture, the balance is with Carlson.

“We have renewed our joint venture with Chanakya Hotels for the next ten years and have a target to operate 50 hotels under the mid-scale Country Inns & Suites brand, up from 11 at present,” Carlson Hotels South Asia Executive Vice-President K. B. Kachru told PTI.
