The Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal of Videocon, a leading manufacturer of consumer durables, to establish a Rs.1,600-crore plant for colour television sets and other electronic consumer durables at Manamadurai in Sivaganga district, according to a senior government official.

In his address to the Assembly early this month, the Governor made a reference to the project, which was in response to the State government’s package of incentives for industrial projects in southern districts.
