With the expansion of expressways and other road infrastructure in the country, there is growing demand for high-performance trucks. To capitalise on the flourishing demand, Bridgestone Corporation, a leading Japanese tyre and rubber manufacturer, plans to produce truck and bus radial tyre (TBR).

The company plans to set up a manufacturing facility at Indore for producing truck and bus radial tyre with an investment of about $36.7 million (about Rs. 170 crore). The company has scheduled the production in the first half of 2011. The capacity of truck and bus tyres is expected to reach 400 units a day by the second half of 2012, says a company release. It currently manufactures passenger car and light truck tyres at its Pithampur plant in Madhya Pradesh.

H. Tanigawa, Managing Director, Bridgestone India has indicated in the release that the decision to produce truck and bus tyre is in response to ever increasing demand.
