BHEL Thirumayam facility to be operational by year-end

The Thirumayam unit of public sector Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), involving an investment of Rs.293 crore, will become operational by the end of 2011. The new unit will have more piping products to meet the demand of petrochemical industries and nuclear equipment manufacturers, said A. V. Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL, Tiruchirapalli.

The ED told a visiting group of journalists from Kochi at Tiruchirapalli recently that the public sector was involved in the development of integrated gasification combined cycle technology which would usher in clean technology. Towards this, a 6.2 MW IGCC research facility has been set up at the Tiruchirapalli unit. The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding with APGENCO for setting up a 182 MW IGCC plant at . He said BHEL had identified to carry out research in clean coal technology applications and ultra supercritical-friendly based applications in thermal power. A joint venture is to be set up at Kalahasthi in Andhra Pradesh for coal handling in cooperation with NTPC. The largest circulating fluidised bed combustion power project of 250 MW would be commissioned by BHEL for NLC this year itself, he said.
