Luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz on Monday launched its top-of-the-line special protection limousine S-Guard, targeted at politicians, captains of industry, royal families, diplomats and celebrities. The limousine has been built on the platform of S 600 and come with a price tag of over Rs.6-crore, making it the costliest car in the country.
The S-Guard is powered by a powerful 12-cylinder bi-turbo engine that can clock a top speed of 210 km an hour, while its special armour can resist military-standard small-arms projectiles and provides protection against fragments from hand grenades and other explosive charges. Its additional safety features include run-flat tyres, a self-sealing fuel tank and a fire-extinguishing system.
Unveiling the limousine here, Mercedes-Benz India Director (Corporate Affairs, Human Resource and IT) Suhas Kadlaskar said the company had already received some enquiries from interested customers for the S-Guard. “The exact price of the car will depend on specifications sought by the individual customers as well as issues like import duty. The S-Guard will come as completely built unit (CBU) from the company's plant in Germany,'' he added.
