Bajaj Fans, one of the six business units of Bajaj Electricals, is diversifying into new product categories by entering the portable genset market, according to R. Ramakrishnan, Executive Director.

Launching portable generators under ‘Bajaj powerhouse' brand, he said the products were unique as they run on LPG (unlike others run on petrol, diesel or kerosene), which would result in running-cost savings up to 35 per cent besides being environment-friendly with less pollution.

To start with, Bajaj generators would be available in four capacities 800 VA, 1,000 VA, 2500 VA and 5000 VA auto-start. The range would be expanded and CNG option would also be available, he said. Last year, the company had a turnover of Rs. 2,250 crore and out of that customer business contributed about Rs.1,500 crore and engineering and projects Rs.700 crore. He said India would see a huge consumer boom in the coming years as people were upgrading their lifestyle and building new houses.

The Executive Director said the company was also looking at acquisition possibilities where it was strong.

A. S. Radhakrishna, President, Fans Business Unit, said the unit sold 42 lakhs fans in 2009-10 and achieved a turnover of Rs. 379 crore.

It had recently entered the domestic pumps category with its range of Bajaj MaxFlo Pumps.
