Bajaj Auto on Friday launched Boxer 150cc in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing presspersons here R. Chandrasekar, General Manager, Marketing and Sales, said the new Boxer 150cc, positioned as the ‘Bharat Bike', was a part of the company's strategy of providing relevant differentiated products to meet the needs of a variety of consumers. The vehicle was designed as an ‘SUV on two wheels' to specifically meet customers' requirements.

He said conventional 100-cc bikes performed adequately on smooth roads, but were not geared to handle the tough terrain outside the cities. The Boxer 150cc's engine would deliver 12 PS power and 12.26 NM torque, nearly 50 per cent more than the standard 100-cc, to make a demanding commute with any kind of load and on any kind of terrain situation far easier.

He said at present smaller 100-cc bikes were dominant in towns and villages. The new Bharat Bike would attract customers looking out for a safe, comfortable ride on the roughest of roads.

He said the overall motorcycle segment was growing at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13-15 per cent in the last 3-4 years and it was expected that the same growth would be maintained in the coming years also.

He said Bharat Bike was priced at Rs.43,247 (ex-Chennai showroom), a price less than that of most 100-cc bikes. The company expected to sell 30,000 vehicles a month from October onwards, Mr. Chandrasekar said and added that “beyond this depending on the demand, we will ramp up the production.”
