Bajaj Auto to focus on brand creation

Bajaj Auto aims to create a specialised global brand in the coming years, according to S. Sridhar, Chief Executive Officer (two wheelers).

Mr. Sridhar told The Hindu that the company was undergoing transformation and had already chalked out a five-year plan to achieve this task. He said around 50,000 Pulsars were sold a month now against only 3,000 in 2001. In the next one-and-half years, premium-end KTM vehicles would be introduced. This would be followed by entry-level bike Boxer.

Mr. Sridhar was in Chennai in connection with the launch of Pulsar 135LS, a light sport bike. The CEO said “We are extending the sports bike segment by adding the light sport bike. Pulsar 135LS is priced at Rs. 51,200 (ex-showroom Chennai).

Mr. Sridhar said the company was developing higher-end bikes.

In the fourth quarter of last financial year, the company sold 85,000 vehicles. This has almost doubled to 1.65 lakh vehicles in the current quarter of this year. He said 2009-10 would be good for the company in terms of top-line and bottom-line growth.
