Axis Bank net profit up 22 %

Axis Bank, on Tuesday, reported a net profit of Rs.1,154 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2012, against Rs.942 crore in the year-ago period, a growth of 22 per cent. The operating profit was higher by 26 per cent at Rs.1,964 crore against Rs.1,558 crore.

Net interest income rose by 26 per cent to Rs.2,180 crore from Rs.1,724 crore.

Fee income

Fee income stood at Rs.1,154 crores up 9 per cent year-on-year. “During the first quarter of current financial year, retail banking and business banking segments were the key drivers for fee income growth,” the bank said. Gross NPAs as proportion of gross customer assets and net NPAs as a proportion of net customer assets were unchanged vis-à-vis previous year and stood at 1.06 per cent and 0.31 per cent, respectively.
