The 4.2 litre petrol engine A8L is priced at Rs.89 lakh
Audi on Friday unveiled the latest version of its flagship super luxury sedan ‘A8 L', priced at Rs.89-lakh. Equipped with a 4.2 litre petrol engine, which delivers 372 HP power, the sedan made its debut at the German carmaker's largest showroom in India that was opened in Delhi. The company plans to introduce more models this year.
“Audi A8 L will allow us to further build upon the tremendous growth potential that the Indian market presents. With Audi witnessing record sales in 2010 to achieve exceptional growth, we believe the new sedan will continue to spur demand in India, and set benchmarks in a segment where we have been defining automotive excellence the world over,” Audi India Head Michael Perschke told journalists here. “A perfect culmination of comfort, style and performance, the new luxury sedan comes with light aluminium body, powerful and highly efficient engines, superior design and an elegant interior,” he added.
To launch new models
On sales, Mr. Perschke said the company was eyeing to be the leader in the domestic luxury car market. The Volkswagen group firm now occupies the third place behind BMW and Mercedes Benz. “We are looking for over 50 per cent sales growth this year as we gear up to launch new models in the country. By 2015 we aim to be the No.1 in the Indian luxury car market,” he added.
81 % growth in sales
The Indian luxury car market is likely to cross 50,000 units annually in the next five years from about 15,000 units in 2010. “We are aiming to sell a minimum of 4,500 units,” he said. Last year, Audi sold 3,003 units in India, translating into a growth of 81 per cent vis-a-vis the previous year. Audi sold 480 units in January 2011, its highest-ever monthly sales in India, up 57 per cent.
