It has been made specially for coastal areas
Coastal Plus, a specialised cement manufactured by Associated Cement Company (ACC), was released here on Friday.
The cement is manufactured at Encore, a cement plant in the special economic zone (SEZ) at Duvvada, acquired by ACC a few years ago.
Chief Executive (East) of the company Vivek Chawla at a press conference here described Coastal Plus as premium high-performance cement.
It gives high early strength and enhances the durability of the structure. The product was released in the market here after testing it first in Kerala where it had received a good response.
The cement, resisting corrosion, overcomes a major problem in the coastal areas. It's priced slightly higher than the OPC cement but has long-term benefits.
It's specially packed using imported material that would not absorb moisture. On the higher cost of the product, Mr. Chawla said a number of costly additives go into the product and therefore the slightly higher cost was inevitable and was justified in view of the benefits.
Sales Head (Orissa and North Andhra) Susim Patra and Head of regional Customer Service Sandip Das Gupta said the product had special features that would result in less cracks in the structure, lower permeability without seepage problem, resistance to harmful ingredients and gases and to chloride and sulphate attack.
Plant Head, Encore, N. Nageswara Rao, said ACC had modernised the plant at the SEZ after acquiring it last year with facilities for grinding the slag in the plant and producing superior cement.
The plant would initially produce 3,000 tonnes per month.
