Chevron signs $60 bn gas deal with South Korea

(AP) Australia’s prime minister says energy giant Chevron has signed deals worth 70 billion Australian dollars ($60 billion) to supply liquefied natural gas to Japan and South Korea.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd told Parliament on Thursday that Chevron’s Australian subsidiary will supply nearly 3 million tonnes a year to the countries, generating AU$70 billion in exports over the next 25 years.

Much of the gas will come from the yet-to-b developed Gorgon gas field,off Australia’s far northwest coast.

Rudd said the deal would generate economic growth, income and jobs.

Last month, PetroChina Co. signed an U$50 billion deal to buy 2.5 million tonnes per of liquefied natural gas from the Gorgon gas field.
