Faced with dwindling capital flows and a widening deficit in the current account, the government has initiated several steps to promote overseas investment in the domestic stock and debt markets.
Qualified financial investors have been allowed to invest in stocks and mutual funds along with FIIs and non-resident Indians. Limits for FII investment in debt have been raised even as the RBI has loosened rules for NRIs investing in bank deposits. To familiarise foreign investors with the ongoing changes in investment norms and to showcase the opportunities available in the Indian markets, Business Line is organising a seminar and expo in Dubai, Singapore and Chennai in May.
The ‘Investment Opportunity Fair’ will feature a distinguished panel of speakers, who will talk about the latest developments in the stock, bond, deposit, mutual fund, insurance markets, commodities and what recent changes in rules mean for investors.
The list includes Ravi Varanasi, Chief-Business Development, NSE; A. Balasubramanian, CEO of Birla Sunlife Mutual Fund; R. Ramaseshan, Managing Director of NCDEX; and M. V. Tanksale, Chairman and Managing Director of Central Bank of India. In Chennai, the two-day fair will be inaugurated on May 3. The key note will be delivered by C. Rangarajan, Chairman, Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council. Chitra Ramkrishna, Managing Director and CEO of NSE will address.
In Dubai, the event will be held on May 9 and 10, and in Singapore on May 25 and 26. NSE is the title sponsor.
The expo will feature banks, financial institutions, non-banking finance companies, insurance, mutual funds, equity, commodity and currency and depository institutions.
