The infamous Delhi smog found mention in the Union Budget 2018 with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announcing a special scheme to tackle stubble burning in the neighbouring states of the National Capital.
Air pollution in Delhi-NCR is a cause for concern, Mr. Jaitley said adding that a "special scheme will be implemented to support Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi NCT to address this and subsidise machinery for management of crop residue."
Under the scheme, the Union government will assist the State governments to set up a in-situ machinery for disposing crop residue in a manner that doesn't adversely affect the environment.
The pollution levels in the national capital rose to dangerous levels lasted year, forcing educational institutions and industries to shut down twice in November 2017.
