The Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) facility, provided by BSNL Chennai Telephones, will be rolled out in about six months. This will offer various services at a higher bandwidth, according to Chennai Telephones Chief General Manager A. Subramanian.
Addressing a meeting with builders here recently, he said the facility would offer services such as telephone, broadband and IPTV. It can deliver internet at a speed of up to 100 Mbps compared to 24 Mbps speed given to home connections now. Distance is not a criterion. The speed of broadband service through wire-line depends on the proximity to the telephone exchange. BSNL is already in the process of providing the FTTH to three apartment complexes, he said.
With real estate booming, such facilities would help in providing telecommunication services to the customers, he added. K.M.Cherian, founder chairman of Frontier Lifeline Hospital, also spoke.
