Mercedes-Benz on Thursday launched the latest version of its luxury sedan S 350 that offers a unique combination of ultra-modern assistance and protection systems. While the petrol version ‘S 350 L’ is priced at Rs.82 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), its diesel variant ‘S 350 CDI L BlueEfficiency’ comes at Rs.80.50 lakh.

Asserting that the new S 350 would carry forward the S-Class leadership in this segment, Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Wilfried Aulbur pointed out that globally, the S-Class was the overwhelming market leader in its segment, and in India as well it was the clear leader with over 53 per cent market share. The refurbished S 350 come with new power packed features that include ‘Splitview’ technology that offers two views on a single screen where both driver and front passenger can view different functions simultaneously on the screen.

A wireless headphone with remote ensures that the co-passenger does not interfere with the driver’s focus while on the road. It also has advance parking guidance system with ultrasonic sensors, reversing camera, multicolour ambient lighting and LED light package. Similarly, the new assistance systems turn the new S-Class model into an ‘intelligent’ partner for the driver, where the car is able to ‘see’, ‘feel’, ‘respond’ reflexively and act autonomously to prevent accidents or mitigate their effects.

Mr. Aulbur also informed that Daimler AG, parent company of Mercedes Benz, was developing a truck especially for the Indian market at its Chennai facility. The truck would hit the roads by 2012. India-specific truck would be in various categories and had new branding under Daimler operations, he added.

Mercedes-Benz India now produces the Actros range of mining trucks and buses from its Chakan plant in Maharashtra.
