Aimed at consolidating its position in the fast-growing smart-phone market, Asus India, a part of the Taiwan-based AsusTek Computer, will soon be introducing touch-screen phones in the price range of Rs. 15,000 early next year. “We have the expertise in multimedia touch-screen phones. At present, we are selling at least six multimedia phones priced between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 26,000 apart from a couple of signature PDA phones, but we will soon be launching touch-screen multimedia phones loaded with location-based services and priced around Rs. 15,000,” Asus India Business Head (Mobile Communication Business) Edward Wang told The Hindu.

Asserting that there was no comparison with Asus PDA phones compared to other manufacturers due to its superior technology and innovative tools, Mr. Wang said they have been closely studying Indian mobile market, particularly of multimedia phones and saw great scope for their products.

“Our multimedia phones are doing well in the fast expanding hi-end mobile market in India. Keeping this in mind, we have developed a new touch-screen handset while retaining our technological edge. We hope the new offering will set a new benchmark in the Indian market,” he added.

Asus India will also be launching two new PDA phones this festive season for high-end users. “These new touch-screen phones will be priced at Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 30,000,” he said.
