Amazon.in is the fastest growing marketplace in India and Amazon Prime is investing in original video content in a big way, its Chief Jeff Bezos has said.

"13 years post-launch, we have exceeded 100 million paid Prime members globally. In 2017 Amazon shipped more than five billion items with Prime worldwide, and more new members joined Prime than in any previous year – both worldwide and in the U.S," Bezos said in a annual letter to shareholders.

“Amazon.in is the fastest growing marketplace in India, and the most visited site on both desktop and mobile, according to comScore and SimilarWeb,” he said.

`The Amazon.in mobile shopping app was also the most downloaded shopping app in India in 2017 according to App Annie,'' Bezos added.

He was bullish on the prospects for Amazon Prime in India.

“Prime added more members in India in its first year than any previous geography in Amazon’s history. Prime selection in India now includes more than 40 million local products from third-party sellers, and Prime Video is investing in India original video content in a big way, including two recent premiers and over a dozen new shows in production,” he added.

Amazon has been increasing its investment in India to take on home grown rival Flipkart. According to media reports, Walmart is in talks to buy Flipkart.
