Airtel's broadband services in Chennai were partially hit on Thursday following the malfunctioning of a DNS Server.
An official spokesman said technical teams were on the job and normal service was likely to be restored by 10 p.m.
The problem began at about 2 p.m. and initially did not affect users already logged into the network before becoming a more widespread broadband outage.
