Agreeing to the demands of mobile subscribers, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Tuesday decided to double the limit of sending SMS from 100 to 200 a day.
“The authority has received representations from some of the service providers and consumers to increase the limit of 100 SMS per day per SIM. The authority has considered these representations and decided to increase the limit of 100 SMS per day to 200 SMS per day per SIM,” the TRAI said in a statement.
While implementing the new provisions of “The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010” to check the menace of pesky calls and SMS on September 27, 2011, the TRAI fixed the limit at 100 SMS a day a SIM.
Though there is no restriction on commercial messages sent through telemarketing companies registered with the TRAI, it has kept certain service providers and organisations from the 100 SMS limit.
