While the slowdown in the U.S has affected business worldwide, Yahoo! Inc. is quickly capitalising on the reverse brain-drain by using the returning NRI pool as a valuable recruiting source.
The Internet giant recently underwent a number of structural changes in management, with its managing director for India resigning last month.
“We have been seeing a lot of interest from people who want to come back home. These are people who are working with other companies and have heard about the work Yahoo! does in India, and we provide them with a working environment that is both comfortable and interesting,” said Hari Vasudev, Vice-President, Connections, Yahoo! Inc, in an interaction with The Hindu .
According to Mr. Vasudev, this talent pool could be used for filling its mid and top-level segment of employees at Yahoo! India R&D’s 2000-strong centre in Bangalore.
“However, let me make it clear that there is no lack of high-quality talent here in India. Its more about investing in a deep recruiting process, not just going to a campus on one day and snap up a candidate that passes some test,” he said.
Talking about Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayers’ decision, including the controversial no working at home rule, he said that it gave Yahoo’s India operations a sense of global alignment.
“It is about introducing structure and removing any obstacle that stands in the way of productivity. While the policy to remove working at home is a globally applicable rule, we feel that it makes things more transparent for both the organisation and the employees,” Mr. Vasudev said.
