Big and bright seem to be the fad of the season.

Displays at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Europe’s biggest technology trade show, indicate that bigger television sets with far superior picture quality will occupy space in living rooms, and slimmer hand-held devices with bigger screens will be preferred by buyers.

Almost all television manufacturers are pushing Ultra High Definition (UHD) 4000 TV sets, which are being projected as the next in-thing in the television market.

Some manufacturers have already introduced UHD 4000 TVs in India, and more models will be rolled out in the coming months.

UHD 4000 TVs, which have four times the resolution of high definition (HD) TVs, are being called the latest technology.

Superior design

According to manufactures, these TVs are being preferred due to their superior design and sharp picture quality.

The latest craze is for large screens starting from 55 inches to 85 inches. Some companies have developed UHD TVs with 95 inches, and the biggest one is 110 inches. Apart from UHD TVs, manufacturers have come out with a curved TV called OLED TV that is being projected as the technology of future.

“Now people want large UHD 4000 TVs. Till last three-to-four years, 32 inches and 40 inches TV sets were considered large, now they are of medium size. People who used to go in for 42 inches are now going in for 60 inches plus. At present, UHD 4000 is the ultimate in TV technology,” said Atul Jain, Senior Vice-President, CE Division, Samsung India Electronics.

Analysts believe that TV makers come out with new technology to push up sales.
