Japanese car major Toyota, on Monday, said it had initiated a recall campaign in India for the diesel variant of its sedan, the Corolla Altis, due to a faulty driveshaft.
The company, in an emailed response, said about 1,000 units would be inspected in this campaign.
“A potential aberration on the left or right side of the driveshaft has been observed in a few cases in the Altis Diesel. We have decided to proactively inspect and repair/replace the drive shafts. This is not a safety concern. This is a precautionary measure to ensure customer satisfaction,” it added.
The recall campaign is for cars that were manufactured between August 3, 2012 and February 14, 2013, in India.
Toyota said the rectification process would take approximately two hours.
The company has put up a message on the website, as per the requirements of the voluntary recall code.
“Customers are also being contacted through our internal dealer network”, the company said.
