Toyota Kirloskar Motor sales drop 19% in August

Japanese car maker Toyota’s Indian subsidiary saw its sales drop by 19 per cent last month.

In a press release on Monday, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), the subsidiary, said it sold 12,384 units in August. During the corresponding period last year, it had sold 15,219 units.

The company sold 11,215 units last month in the domestic market, seven per cent less compared to the 12,007 units sold in August 2013. The release said 1,169 units of Etios series were exported last month. (In July it had exported 1,926 units of Etios series).

TKM Director and Senior Vice-President (Sales and Marketing) N.Raja said: "We look forward to increased demand in the coming months due to the festive season."

In July, the company had reported a four per cent increase in the sales in the domestic market. It sold 11,921 units in July as against 11,515 units in July 2013. The total sales of 13,847 units in July were, however, down by over four per cent as compared to 14,470 units in July 2013.
