February 01, 2015 07:42 pm | Updated 07:42 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Sunday said it has registered a growth of 16 per cent in first month of the year, selling 12,650 units in the domestic market. The company had sold 10,910 units in January 2014, it said in a statement. “The growth of 16 per cent is also credited to the launch of the New Innova and all-new Fortuner 4X4 AT, in early January,” N Raja, Director and Senior Vice President (Sales and Marketing) at the company said.

Toyota also registered an increase of 15 per cent in total sales (including exports) at 14,364 units in January 2015 as opposed to 12,440 units sold in the year-ago month.

However, Mr. Raja said the effect of the increased prices on account of excise duty hike, is impacting the market. “We hope the government would reconsider the excise duty concessions in the upcoming Fiscal Budget, to achieve sustained growth in 2015. In line with the 'Make in India' campaign, structural reforms for the automobile sector are essential at this point in time,” he added.

Meanwhile, two-wheeler maker Royal Enfield reported 42 per cent jump in domestic sales at 28,157 units in January this year, compared to 19,808 units in the year ago month. The company’s total sales stood at 28,927 units in the last month, up 43 per cent from 20,232 units in January 2014. Exports stood at 770 units, up from 424 units in the year ago period.
