Low-cost airliner IndiGo on Monday announced that chief commercial officer Sanjay Kumar had stepped down. This is the second high profile exit after its president Aditya Ghosh resigned in April.
William Boulter, chief strategy officer, will replace Mr. Kumar, the airline said. Mr. Kumar had spent almost 11 years at IndiGo.
According to the airline’s website, Mr. Kumar had more than 20 years of experience in the aviation sector, including stints at Sahara Airlines and SpiceJet. The exits come at a time when IndiGo planned to expand its international operations and had added several expatriates to its leadership team, including Mr. Boulter and Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, the chief operating officer, both of whom joined the airline earlier this year. Michael Swiatek is the airline’s chief planning officer and Gregory Taylor, who is a senior advisor, is likely to be appointed as CEO subject to regulatory approvals.
The airline has plans to add destinations in Europe to its network. Currently, IndiGo enjoys 40% of the domestic market share with 42 destinations in the country. It has 14.7% international market share among all Indian carriers and serves eight international destinations, which mostly include destinations in the Gulf region and South-East Asia.
