TIL will soon kick off the first phase of its Rs.600-crore investment by setting up four projects with a direct employment potential of 2,000. Established in 1944, TIL is in the business of construction and mining system as well as material handling and port handling equipment.
The projects are coming up in two adjacent locations in Kharagpur in the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal. The proposed roll out of these projects would begin from November 18 and get completed by 2015, company officials said. Under this greenfield venture, TIL will manufacture port, road building and material handling equipment under technical collaboration with Astec Hester and Manitowac of the U.S. and Mitsui.
The first phase coming up on 165 acres at Changual, entails an investment of Rs.120 crore. This part of the project would roll out crushing and screening products for aggregate and mining applications. The remaining part of the project is coming up on a 104-acre plot at the Vidyasagar Industrial Complex where ‘Reachstacker' and forklift trucks would be made. These units would complement TIL's existing plant at Kamarhatty near Kolkata. The project offers indirect employment opportunity for 5,000 persons, including construction workmen.
Company officials said that TIL purchased the Changual portion directly, with CRS activities like medical camps, and extension of education facilities for sellers. The company also proposes to get associated with local government for development of roads for Changual village.
