With festive season at its peak, online shoppers are making merry with shopping portals offering a number of deals and discounts. And it is not just the shopper, but e-tailers too who are having a dazzling time with their sales shooting up during this period.

According to Manoj Gupta, Co-Founder, craftsvilla.com, e-shopping during the current season has witnessed a 65 per cent increase compared to last year for products such as mobile phones, tablets, consumer electronics and home appliances.

“With a hectic life, and few off days, it gets very difficult for consumers to take out time to complete shopping for festivals. So, the ‘mouse’ scrolling is in wide use. Buyers are now just a click away with the coming up of innumerable shopping portals,” Mr. Gupta said .

He added that to make the festive frenzy shoppers happy, online retailers are offering huge discounts and interesting deals in almost all product verticals.

More purchases

Echoing similar views, Amit Maheshwari, VP (Fashion Merchandise) at Snapdeal.com said, “Festivals usually mean extensive shopping for personal use or gifting purposes and this translates in more people getting online to make their purchases. People, high on festive fervour are logging onto Snapdeal to shop for various products .”

Snapdeal is providing customers a wide range of festive discounts and offers such as an additional cashback on electronics purchases, up to 60 per cent discount on perfumes, footwear, jewellery and clothing, among others.

“If you look at any general offline retail store, the growth rates remain in the tune of 25-30 per cent, while we have witnessed an increase in sales by over 50 per cent on account of the festive season,” Mr. Maheshwari added.

Ravi Vora, Sr. VP (Marketing) with Flipkart said, “Our festive season sales have exceeded expectations. We have a number of offers going on across the site and recently concluded the Flipkart Diwali Cyber Sale which had discounts, exchange offers on gadgets and cashback on certain cards for shoppers.”

He added that sales are robust across categories, especially mobiles, laptops, cameras, clothing and footwear. “We expect this momentum to continue right until Diwali,” he said.

As per a survey by industry body Assocham, “Online shopping is likely to grow by nearly 250 per cent during this festive season at various metros .”

Meanwhile, Amazon India’s (which is seeing its first Diwali in the country) Vice President and Country Manager Amit Aggarwal said, “In addition to a spike in consumer electronics in the last three to four weeks, we have seen a significant jump in sales across watches, baby products, toys and games.”
