Pune-based mobile technology company Swipe Telecom, on Friday, announced its entry into the South Indian market with a range of tablet PCs.

The company will partner with mobile phone retailer UniverCell to launch its products Swipe 3D Life Plus and Swipe MTV Series.

It has been fuelling its expansion after recently picking up private equity funding of Rs.30 crore from Kalari Capital. “This (funding) is going to fuel our growth in the next one year or so. We will look to pick up more funding after 12 months. All our tablets for now are Android-based, but may launch a Windows one later this year,” said Shripal Gandhi, Founder and CEO of Swipe, while addressing reporters here on Friday.

Value chain

“We control the whole value chain when it comes to our products. That’s why we are successful,” he added.

The company expects to reap Rs.300 crore revenue this year, helped by this southern foray.

“The timely entry of Swipe into the southern market will be a win-win situation, and I foresee a positive shift in the purchase trends of customers,” said Sathish Babu, Founder, UniverCell Telecommunications.

New tablets

The company has launched eight new tablets in the price range of Rs.4,199 to Rs.14,999, vying for larger market share in a space dominated by multinationals such as Samsung and domestic rivals such as Micromax.
