STD calls to become cheaper

February 25, 2015 12:13 am | Updated April 02, 2016 06:41 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A day after paving the way for reduction in landline and mobile call rates, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Tuesday slashed by about 50 per cent domestic carriage charges that play a role in determining the STD call rates.

The regulator has reduced the ceiling of the domestic carriage charge to 35 paise per minute from existing 65 paise.

The change will be effective from March 1.

Telecom service providers pay domestic carriage charge when their subscriber makes an STD call on the network of another company. STD calls get routed through a national long distance operator (NLDO).
