Som Mittal will remain as the Nasscom President until early 2014. A decision to this effect was taken by the IT trade association’s executive council on Monday.

“Mr Som Mittal is doing an outstanding job in leading Nasscom as a president. The Executive Council, therefore, has unanimously agreed to extend his term till early 2014, to which he has agreed,” said a Nasscom release.

Mittal took over as Nasscom President in January 2008 and was set to step down by the end of this year.

The extension in appointment comes at a time when IT exports are expected to grow at a lower rate of 11 – 14 percent, compared to 2011’s result of 17 per cent.

Nasscom (National Association of Software and Service Companies) is the 1200-member trade association that represents India’s $100 billion IT services industry.
